subat is a los angeles–based singer-songwriter, producer, and composer. his work combines modern production with classical afghan and indian influences, using instruments like the harmonium and tabla to bring depth and texture to pop, indie, and film music.
with over a decade of experience in television and film, his credits include taste the nation (hulu), la’s finest (fox), gotham, and bones, as well as narrative podcasts for npr and vespucci productions. from his venice beach studio, he writes, produces, and mixes everything himself, delivering complete projects end-to-end.
his debut ep, hurry up & heal (may 2024), is a personal reflection on the resilience of afghans following the taliban’s 2021 return, blending storytelling and sound into a body of work that feels both global and deeply human. in that same period, subat turned his music studio into an operations hub to help evacuate women, journalists and artists trapped in kabul.
